Hello Jordyn. That’s a great question. If I remember correctly, we paid with our credit card for the cable cars (it would have been a lot of cash since we were four adults on our most recent visit). In fact, I think we used our credit card for almost everything in the Dolomites. Cheers, Julie

Do the cable car stations around Cortina accept credit cards? I have read that the rifugio are hit or miss when it comes to requiring cash, but was wondering what to expect for the cable cars.

Thanks as always!

Venice and Milan both make good entry points into the Dolomites. A factor in determining the best one depends on where you are coming from, arrival time, and ease of getting to either airport (for example, you may find direct flights to one location but not other one). For public transportation, that will also depend on your arrival city so you will have to look online for bus timetables. Cheers, Julie

I don’t think May is a good time to visit the Dolomites. Many cable cars and chairlifts are closed in May so you will be very limited in what you can see and do, even if you don’t want to do a lot of hiking. I think early June is better, when the cable cars start to open, since that gives you more places to visit. It will be a little more crowded but you can also visit the best places in the Dolomites. July and August tend to be the busiest times to visit the Dolomites. You can time your trip such that you visit other parts of Italy in mid to late May and then end in the Dolomites, basically doing our Northern Italy itinerary in the opposite direction. Ran can happen at any time. On our most recent visit in the summer (July) the weather was mostly sunny most days with an occasional afternoon thunderstorm. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Julie
